This publication looks at how public interest litigation, in its various adaptations, has evolved in different societies; the factors that have shaped its growth and defined its form and those that have stood in its way. The research also looked at its potentials and its future, to understand what prospects it has going forward.
Our goal in doing this is to inform ourselves and others interested in the subject of how public interest advocacy has grown from its humble beginnings, what it has accomplished, the extent to which it has succeeded in altering or impacting the status quo, and the role it will likely play, going forward, in ameliorating social inequalities and injustices by securing the benefits of constitutional rights to persons and communities who cannot effectively claim for themselves, those benefits and freedoms guaranteed them by their Constitutions.
