POSITION VACANCIES


These vacancies listed hereunder are as advertised in national newspapers. Please scroll down to read full details of positions being filled at this time. Deadline for the submission of applications are as announced in the newspapers, i.e. 2 weeks from date of announcement, so that all applications must be received by 23rd of February, 2010.

Candidates are shortlisted or recruited on their individual merits and are strongly advised not to solicit external lobbying help at any stage of the recruitment process: candidates who breach this rule will be disqualified.           Project Manager (Ref: Project 1:1)
The project manager will lead and manage a project designed to work towards the domestication of a key standard-setting United Nations Convention relating to the treatment of persons by law enforcement agencies. The project manager will be responsible for the day to day implementation of the project and will supervise down-line project staff, consultants and researchers.  S/he will coordinate multilateral sets of actions directed at achieving the objectives of the project within a limited and mostly challenging time framework, as well as provide supervision and facilitation to other human resources recruited by the project. S/he will prepare periodic reports of the progress achieved by the project.

            Qualification
The ideal candidate must hold a first degree in the arts, humanities, social sciences or law discipline, but those with law degrees could find their backgrounds more helpful in addressing some aspects of the project. A post-graduate degree will be of advantage in any case. The candidate must demonstrate experience of successful project management and coordination in the governance/human rights field as well as the ability to achieve stated goals within specific periods. The candidate must have at least five years working experience, two of which must be in the relevant field.

Duration: 2 year, fixed-term contract 

Remuneration   N2,000,000 – 2,500,000 per annum

 

Project Associate: (Ref: Project 1-2)
The project associate will report to, and provide effective project execution assistance to the Project Manager; s/he will take primary responsibility of organizing the activities comprised in the project, and identifying further opportunities towards enhancing the achievement of the project’s activities. S/he will produce periodic newsletters/journals under the project as well as provide editorial assistance for the other publications related to the project.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate must hold a first degree in the arts, humanities, social sciences or law discipline, and have at least two years post-qualification experience. A law degree would be an advantage. S/he must demonstrate familiarity with managing projects of a similar nature and ability to achieve stated goals within defined periods.

Remuneration   N1,000,000 – 1,200,000 per annum

Duration: 2 year fixed-term contract 

 

Programme Attorney (Ref: Programme A)

Core Responsibilities
The candidate will manage a programme to strengthen core rule of law values, particularly as they relate to rights of access to justice, and the institutional integrity of the judiciary and the judicial process. A substantially challenging position, s/he will utilize a cocktail of interventions – such as research and investigation, as well as reporting, advocacy, litigation, and publishing – to raise public concern on rule of law issues and generate pressure for correction or reform. The candidate will be required to implement strategic plans to achieve stated goals, identify further opportunities for delivering activity goals, as well as direct the activities accomplishing the set goals. Working within an integrated and interdisciplinary environment, the candidate will interface with, and provide support for others working in a number of interrelated programmes. S/he will work within the context of agreed performance benchmarks.

Qualifications and Experience
The candidate must be a qualified lawyer with no less than 3 years post-call experience; must profile strong professional credentials and be passionate about issues of social justice; must be able to direct and coordinate multifaceted interventions and accomplish set goals within stated periods. S/he must have excellent communication skills, demonstrate outstanding writing talent and be able to work with little or no supervision or direction. Knowledge of, and dexterity in use of word processing computer applications is essential.

Remuneration N1,000,000 – 1,200,000 p/annum

Institutional Development Manager (Ref-IDD-1) 

Core Responsibilities
The person will take lead responsibility for developing and implementing the organization’s institutional development and sustainable funding strategy, expand current funding windows, and manage current and prospective donor (and other support group) relationships. S/he will oversee all aspects of grant-related activities, take leading part in developing grant-seeking proposals, as well as grant reporting obligations within prescribed timeframes; the candidate will also provide excellent advisory and back-up service to programme staff in their respective areas of work, as well as leverage and build on existing goodwill to identify and deliver new opportunities to the organization, within the context of agreed performance benchmarks.

Qualifications and Experience
The candidate for any of these positions must have exceptional interpersonal communication skills, including an ability to deliver reports in excellent narrative; s/he must have the ability, dynamism and willingness to embrace grant-raising and administration challenges inherent in the field of non-profit related work, and a dogged capacity to explore and cultivate new relationships. Preference will be given to candidates who have managed similar responsibilities in the past, or have substantial familiarity with the non-profit work environment. For the position of IDD, the candidate must have at least 3 years experience in a similar assignment.

Programme Officer, (Institutional Development): (Ref: IDD-2)

Core Responsibilities

Researchers

1 Lead Researcher: (6 Months Consultancy) (Ref: Project R-1)
This researcher will coordinate a field research project as well as analyze findings and develop the report of the research. The research explores the interrelation between pre-trial violence and criminal conviction rates of alleged offenders. The lead researcher will participate in the field research as well as coordinate the work of other researchers recruited for the assignment,; s/he will develop the methodology for the research, supervise field researchers and ensure their compliance with criteria relating to the research and data collection.

2 Researchers (4 months consultancy): (Ref: Project R-2)
Researchers will conduct a field research project located in Lagos and Abuja that explores the interrelation between pre-trial violence and conviction rates of alleged offenders and collate their findings. Researchers who will work under the supervision of the lead researcher will undertake a fairly considerable review court rulings and research court dockets to access relevant court filings and records.

Qualification
The lead researcher must have a law degree and at least 5 years professional experience in the criminal justice field. The candidate must be results-driven and have proficient research coordination as well as interpersonal skills, and an ability to deliver reports in excellent narrative and be sensitive and accountable to time-lines.

Researchers must have a law degree and at least 3 years post qualification experience in the criminal justice field. They must also have exceptional research and writing skills and ability to work without supervision.

 

 

2 INTERNS (Ref: Programme INT)
Interns assist programme/project officers; one intern will work in the general programme areas and one in the Institutional Development Programme. A portrait of the institutional development programme mandate is reflected in the advertisement of for Institutional Programme Manager above. Interns should indicate which programmes they want to work in. For internships in the general programme, reference “Programme INT-Gen”; for internships in the institutional development programme, reference “Programme INT-IDD).

Qualifications
Interns must be graduates who can come from any discipline.

Remuneration: Interns are not paid salaries but receive transportation and lunch allowances of up to N25,000 monthly depending on their locations.
